Let’s Talk About Confidence…

Confidence is a subject that I feel everyone struggles with and the fact that I throughly enjoy writing particularly from my experience of academic writing throughout my education, this makes this post more enjoyable to write about.

Everybody suffers in various ways with confidence which can range from self confidence to social confidence etc. I’m going to state this now that I’m not an expert but I’m going to talk from my own personal experience on how I have dealt with confidence issues and I hope this will help some of you.

I can be confident in certain familiar situations however, there are other situations where I will just totally freak out and feel anxious which only a few close people to me know about. I have found from my own experience that I lack the confidence to open up to people or doing different things out my comfort zone because of the fear of being judged. Which I should additionally add, if you’re the kind of person that will happily judge someone based on their past mistakes then there’s no justification there and it’s unkind. Everyone makes mistakes in life, and a true person would support that.

Anyway, lately I have somehow forced myself into situations where I wouldn’t normally feel confident such as experimenting with different makeup. (Again, I’m not saying I’m an expert makeup artist) however, practicing with different brands and makeup I never used to wear has made me realise that I have the passion there in experimenting with different products and I find this enjoyable to do! From doing this, I have been able to gain the confidence to out into society with different makeup looks I definitely wouldn’t have done this time last year. That’s my self confidence story.

With social confidence, for various reasons I only open up to a limited number of people and I now only keep the close people in my life who have a positive impact on my life. I lack confidence in trusting people to be true friends, which is why I have a small group of friends now which I can honestly say having a small group of friends who I know has a positive impact in my life and supports every decision I make, really does help you have healthy relationships with people and most importantly, has a positive impact on your mental health wellbeing. Cut ties completely with anybody who you feel keeps bringing negativity to your life, from my personal experience, it really helps your social confidence to find new people who is worthy of being in your life because of that positive connection which is so important.

I hope sharing my experience and suggestions helps some people.
